Troy Scott Smith is one of Britain's most respected horticulturists and Head Gardener at the world-renowned Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Widely recognised for his thoughtful approach to planting and garden stewardship, Troy has led Sissinghurst through a celebrated period of renewal, carefully evolving Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson's iconic garden while remaining true to its original spirit. Under his leadership, major projects including the recreation of the long-envisioned Delos Garden have further strengthened Sissinghurst's reputation as one of the world's great gardens.

Born into a family of committed naturalists in Yorkshire, Troy studied horticulture and garden design before joining the National Trust in 1990. At just 26, he became the Trust's youngest Head Gardener, later leading celebrated gardens including The Courts, Hyde Hall, Iford Manor and Bodnant before returning to Sissinghurst, where he had first trained as a young gardener.

Alongside his work at Sissinghurst, Troy is an acclaimed designer, writer, lecturer and consultant, and serves on the RHS Floral Committee. His work has been recognised internationally, and he continues to influence the future of horticulture through teaching, writing and mentoring the next generation of professional gardeners. At The English Gardening School, Troy tutors on the Good Gardening Diploma, sharing the philosophy, craftsmanship and practical expertise that have made him one of the most admired gardeners working today.
