Our Founder
Rosemary Alexander
Rosemary Alexander founded the EGS in 1983 following a distinguished career as a garden designer, with a vision to provide the highest standard of education in garden design and horticulture. A pioneering figure in the profession, she was the first woman elected to the Society of Garden Designers, has judged regularly for the Royal Horticultural Society and was awarded the RHS Gold Veitch Memorial Medal for her outstanding contribution to horticulture.
An acclaimed author and international lecturer, Rosemary's celebrated garden at Sandhill Farm House near Petersfield remains an important part of the EGS experience, regularly welcoming students to learn from it first hand.
The School
Since its foundation in 1983, EGS has inspired generations of gardeners and garden designers from its home at Chelsea Physic Garden. Established to promote excellence in horticulture and design, the School combines expert teaching, specialist knowledge and practical experience delivered by leading figures in the industry.
