Kate Coulson is a garden designer and plantswoman whose beautifully crafted gardens have earned widespread recognition for their atmosphere, sensitivity and exceptional planting. After an early career at Christie's, Kate studied Plantsmanship and Garden Design at The English Gardening School, where she developed the horticultural knowledge that underpins her distinctive approach to garden making.

Over the past two decades, Kate has created and nurtured two remarkable gardens: her family garden in Cumbria and a drought-tolerant hillside garden in the Luberon region of Provence. Both have been widely admired for their imaginative use of plants, topiary and colour, demonstrating how gardens can evolve naturally while remaining deeply connected to their landscape and sense of place. Her work has been featured in House & Garden, Country Life and English Gardens, inspiring gardeners through its timeless, painterly approach to planting.

Alongside her design work, Kate is a respected speaker and educator, sharing her passion for plants and garden making with audiences across the UK. At The English Gardening School, she tutors on the Garden Design Diploma, encouraging students to develop gardens with confidence, creativity and a deep understanding of the relationship between plants, place and the passage of time.
