Edward Flint is one of the UK's most respected practising head gardeners, combining decades of hands-on horticultural experience with an exceptional depth of practical knowledge. As Head Gardener of a large private family estate on the Kent and Sussex border, he is responsible for managing an extensive and diverse landscape including mixed herbaceous borders, woodland gardens, meadows, vegetable gardens and cut flower production, giving him an intimate understanding of how gardens evolve through every season.

Edward's career was shaped by an informal but invaluable apprenticeship under two of horticulture's most influential figures: the legendary Christopher Lloyd at Great Dixter and renowned plantswoman Elizabeth Strangman at Washfield Nursery. This early training laid the foundations for a career rooted in exceptional horticultural standards, thoughtful planting and practical craftsmanship. He later went on to design and build gardens across the UK and Europe, bringing together strong design principles with a deep understanding of how plants perform in the landscape over time.

A longstanding and much-loved tutor at The English Gardening School, Edward teaches on the Good Gardening Diploma, where his practical, experience-led approach helps students develop the confidence, skills and horticultural judgement needed to care for gardens to the highest standard. His teaching is firmly grounded in the realities of gardening, making him one of EGS's most valued and inspiring tutors.
