Barbara Samitier is an award-winning garden designer whose work is celebrated for creating timeless landscapes that balance beauty, functionality and a deep respect for the natural world. Founder of Moss Studio, Barbara has more than 20 years' experience designing private and public landscapes across the UK and Europe, with projects ranging from intimate urban gardens to expansive country estates. Originally from the South of France, having spent her childhood roaming in the Mediterranean hills, she got a taste for immersive, layered and tactile landscapes with a strong sense of place.
Before establishing her own practice in 2012, Barbara spent eight years with an acclaimed international landscape practice, working on high-end residential projects in the UK, France and Spain. Today, through Moss Studio, she leads a collaborative design team committed to creating resilient, biodiverse landscapes that enrich both people and nature. Her philosophy centres on designing gardens that are not only visually beautiful, but restorative, enduring and deeply connected to their surroundings.
At The English Gardening School, Barbara tutors on the Essential Garden Design Diploma, encouraging students to develop gardens that respond sensitively to site, architecture and the people who use them. Drawing on decades of professional practice, she inspires students to create landscapes that are elegant, sustainable and filled with a quiet sense of magic.
