The Making of a Garden with Alasdair Cameron

Join us for a very special day with garden designer and plantsman Alasdair Cameron at his new garden in Devon, offering the rare opportunity to explore a garden while it is still being made.

Founder of Cameron and a garden designer for more than 30 years, Alasdair is known for creating gardens with a strong sense of place, combining thoughtful design with an exceptional knowledge and love of plants.

Throughout the day, Alasdair will take us behind the scenes of his new garden, explaining how it has developed from the first ideas through to the emerging landscape we see today. We will look at the masterplan, the relationship between the house, garden and wider landscape, and the practical decisions involved in turning a design on paper into a living garden.

There will be a particular focus on planting: how Alasdair develops a planting scheme, creates structure and rhythm, works with existing landscape and vegetation, and plans for a garden that will continue to develop and change over many years.

We will also consider the less visible elements involved in making a successful garden, from construction and soil preparation to sustainability, maintenance and the practical realities of establishing and caring for a newly planted garden.

This is a chance to see the design process at a fascinating stage, before the garden has reached maturity, and to understand not simply what has been created, but why particular decisions have been made and how the garden will evolve from here.
