Rosemary

In 2023 The English Gardening School celebrated 40 years since Rosemary opened at the Chelsea Physic Garden.  Born and brought up in Scotland, she then trained as a landscape architect.  From 1989 till 1997 Rosemary was tenant of the 15th century National Trust property Stoneacre, near Maidstone Kent where she transformed the garden.  She was the first woman to be elected to the Society of Garden Designers and has now been made a life member. A member of IDS (dendrologists), Pterodological Society, Garden Media Guild, Royal Horticultural Society and a founder member of European Boxwood and Topiary Society.

Rosemary has judged at all the RHS and many international shows and has given master classes in the UK and abroad, including the USA, Russia and South Korea.

In 2011 she was awarded the Gold Veitch Memorial Medal by the RHS in recognition of services given in the advancement of the science and practice of horticulture.  She is the author of several books translated into 10 languages including the 3rd edition of The Essential Garden Design Workbook (Timber Press) and The English Gardening School’s distance learning courses which can be studied anywhere in the world.

Rosemary opens her own garden at Sandhill Farm House near Petersfield which has been featured in most gardening magazines.
